The modern day Olympics are well organized and watched all over the world . Many believe hockey is the most interesting sport in the winter Olympics. The Olympics have many traditions and are exciting because modern day Olympics have a wide variety of sports, and because hockey is an aggressive and entertaining sport to watch. First the modern Olympics were an ingenious event to remodel from the ancient Olympics. The first sports that were played in the Olympics was the pole vault, sprints, shot put, weight lifting, swimming, cycling, target shooting, tennis, gymnastics, and marathon(history1900s). These events were first played in the April of 1896. Swimming was held in the Aegean Sea and other events were held in the Panathenaic stadium. The Olympic games were not publicized nationally so the contestants came if they had the money (history1900s). In the modern Olympics there were no awards, but King George gave awards before the closing ceremony. These awards were only given for athletes who competed in the summer Olympics. (pe04). The modern Olympics helped base many of the events we compete today. Finally, the best and most enjoyable sport in the Olympics is hockey. Many people around the world find hockey an pleasurable sport. Hockey is an awesome and rough sport to play. Canada has the most talented and experienced players in the world and are predicted to win the Olympics in hockey(abc7) Even though Canada is predicted to win Canada and Russia are tied for winning the most gold medals in the Olympics. The United States has very good odds of winning this event because they have one of the best goalies in the NHL (betus). The United States are predicted to win the silver medal behind the Canadians. Hockey is an aggressive and great sport to watch, especially when U.S.A is very talented. In conclusion the Olympics are an amazing creation because the modern day Olympics helped produce some of the events we use today and because hockey has shown it’s an appealing sport to watch. Hockey is undoubtedly one of the most popular sports throughout the world and in the Olympics. Pierre de Coubertin created one of the cleverest ideas for sporting events ever.
